Great family camping in England – comments from our campers

Family camping trips can be a really special time and we think our woodland campsites are great places to come for your family camping holiday or weekend away. There’s no electricity on our sites so you’ll really be able to get away from it all and enjoy each others company. But there’s no need to take our word for it – we keep our “Camper’s Comments Page” for Wild Boar Wood Campsite and Beech Estate Campsite updated and we tend to get great reviews from everyone who stay from couples to families.

We’ve highlighted a few of the lovely comments we’ve had from families over the years to give you a real flavour of what to expect on a family camping trip with Pegs and Pitches…

Family camping

Family camping at Beech Estate:

“Just got back from the most awesome stay at Beech Estate campsite! Theresa and Laurence are such welcoming and inspiring people, it definitely gave the whole campsite a very mellow feel.  The grounds were stunning and the facilities comfortable and clean.  Maddy told us all the way home how she’s going to have a place just like that when she’s big and when I asked her if she loved it there, she said ‘I don’t just love it, I want to live there!’ So thanks so much from all of us, next time we’ll stay longer and bring everyone we know.” The B Family x (May 2015)

“Hi Hugh, We had a fantastic time at the site and look forward to coming back next year. The kids loved it and the spot you gave us was perfect. Thanks again.” Julia (August 2015)

“Having stayed at beech estate this weekend, I wanted to tell you how lovely it was and how amazing your wardens Loz and Theresa are. They couldn’t have done any more to make our break enjoyable and they are undoubtedly a positive influence on all the children that stay. Many thanks.” Mike and family (April 2014)

“Just about recovered and still enjoying lots of lovely memories…has been a lot of chat about doing it again next year and making it bigger!!!….!! the kids were so blown away with the whole thing – charlotte (6yrs) said saturday was the best day of her life! hope the summers continuing well – weather still amazing so sure you’ve been v busy. B x (40th Birthday June 2014)

“Great campsite and a fantastic weekend, the kids loved the freedom of the woods and meant everyone had a relaxed, enjoyable weekend” Neil and Family (May 2013)

“Loved our time at the campsite, great family experience.” Nick and Family (May 2013)

“First outdoor experience with the kids and they loved every minute. Hardly saw them!” Ayres Family (May 2013)

Family camping at Wild Boar Wood:

“We have just had an amazing weekend at Wild Boar! I wanted to let you know that Amy and Pete were more than just wardens- they were true hosts. So engaged with everyone and even came out to wave to us all as we went past in the train – both ways!!! The children had a wonderful time. They are quite young but were able to play freely and wander the woods on their own. My son is SO dirty – already had 2 baths and not got rid of the grime. I think some of his clothes will never recover either – sign of a very good time and a happy child!!!! We are coming back next year!” Josine, family and friends (July 2015)

“Thanks for our weekend. We all loved it and have taken away some very special memories. Our kids had to do a photography project for their half term work, and both have pics from the wood and have written up a little piece about it….it was a privilege to share some time in such a special place. I think it is so important that people get to have experiences like this, not least to spend some decent time thinking about how precious these spaces are, and how vital it is that we look after them.” Ali and Family (May 2014)

“Staying here, we’ve seen our dream – woods living, being under canvas, cooking by fire, and unexpectedly home education!” Emma (June 2013)

“Had a fabulous weekend at Wild Boar, William (4 years old) did his homework when we returned and he wrote “We went camping in a big tent and I was all snuggly buggly in my sleeping bag and in my heart”. thought it summed it up nicely. Whole family enjoyed our first camping trip and especially the kids, Annabel is already asking when we can go back. Thanks to Hugh and the team, you’ve done a great job with the camp.” Libby & Family (June 2012)

“Just got back from work and had to thank you guys after another lovely weekend. Not even the weather could put a dampener on such a beautiful place with plenty of smiling children’s(and adult’s) faces as proof of once again job well done! Will definitely be back soon. Many Thanks”
The Cameron’s (June 2012)

“We had a great time at Eco Camp. Tim is a great teacher of all things outdoors for two useless city dwellers! See you again soon!” Emilia & Luke (2012)

“I love it and it’s fab. I want to camogain. I like tents and I like everything :-)” Sean (another younger eco camper) (Sept 2012)

“Great time!! Felt great pretending to be Bear Grylls. DEfinitely come back again!!” Rich (2012)

“Very peaceful, perfect for camping, thank” Marco (2012)

“Cheers Tim – we had a brilliant time and wish we had more days here. We’ll be back.” Matt King (SUPER HANS – Peep Show) (Aug 2012)

“We have had a fantastic holiday here – thank you so much – wonderful experience. Loved making fires, the bell tent had everything we needed. Thank you. Thanks to Tim for everything – so helpful.” Mel, Andy & Isobel xx (Aug 2012)
