On a chilly Spring or Autumn camping trip there is nothing better that sipping on a hot drink whilst relaxing around the campfire. Although the top favourite tends to be the classic hot chocolate we’ve listed some of our favourite campfire hot drinks below. Whether you’re on a camping trip or just fancy something warm and comforting at home on a winters evening, give these campfire hot drink recipes a go and let us know your thoughts!
Child Friendly Campfire Hot Drinks
Nutella Hot Chocolate
This is an easy one and saves on a lot of fuss when packing ingredients. All you’ll need is some milk and a big spoonful of Nutella! Warm the milk gently, when it’s hot enough you can give everyone a cup of hot milk. The kids will love the next bit. Just allow each person to spoon out a dollop of Nutella and mix it through themselves. Yum!
Hot Apple Ginger
- Apple Juice
- Cinnamon sticks
- Apple (sliced)
Gently warm the apple juice on the campfire and add all of the spices, bring up to the boil to infuse the flavours and then pour out into your cups and enjoy. For the adults, why not try this with apple cider?
Campfire Hot Chocolate
You can make this easy by buying the powdered stuff and just adding it to the milk. Or make a fancy hot chocolate by melting your choice of dark, milk or white chocolate into the milk. We’re big fans of these Hot Chocolate Drops. Just make sure you heat the milk gently so as not to burn it.
Don’t forget the marshmallows!
To warm their bellies and send them off to the land of nod. Gently warm the milk over the campfire until it’s just right. You could add a spoonful of honey or a dash of vanilla for extra flavour.
Adult Campfire Hot Drinks
The Classic Hot Toddy
It’s a classis for a reason. Whether you’ve got a sniffly nose or just need warming up this is a real treat on a cold evening and is sure to warm you up!
- Hot water
- Shot of whiskey
- Squeeze of lemon
- Drizzle of honey
The amounts are determined by your own taste buds! Start with a little, taste and add more until you get the perfect balance for you.
Another classic, particularly during the festive period. But it doesn’t have to be Christmas to enjoy this delicious spicy treat. When you’re sitting around the campfire it’s a lovely addition to keep your hands warm until the boozy heat reaches all the way to your toes!
We highly recommend Jamie Oliver’s mulled wine recipe which you can find here. Once you’ve got this made, just pop the the pan next to the fire and it’ll stay warm so you can keep topping up your cup!
Boozy Hot Chocolate
Make your delicious hot chocolate as mentioned above in the kid friendly zone. Add a splash of peppermint schnapps and you’ll have a fresh and warming adult hot chocolate to sup on! Not so keen on mint chocolate? Try a glug of Baileys instead, or a dash of cointreau for the chocolate orange lovers out there.
Skip the instant stuff and make yourself the perfect campfire coffee. We recommend this enamel coffee perculator that has an eight cup capacity.
Hot Caramel Cider
This is for those of you with a sweeter tooth!
- Apple cider
- Caramel sauce
- Vanilla extract
Warm the cider over the fire then stir in a dollop of caramel sauce and a touch of vanilla. Stir until the caramel has disappeared, then melt into your camp chair with this sweet and warming treat.
