Pegs and Pitches Camping

We launched our first campsite over nine years ago with the purpose of providing real campers and wild glampers with uncompromising access to Nature, Peace and Space. We coupled this with the chance for them to enjoy a campfire with their family or a small group of friends, and this approach has proved incredibly popular. The two campsites began in 2011 as Eco Camp UK. Then in 2019 we renamed ourselves Pegs and Pitches Camping.

Our beautiful campsites are located in areas where nature and wildlife can flourish. From carefully managed forest meadows to coppiced stands of ancient woodland, each site and the surrounding land are managed to encourage encounters with the natural world.

As well as managing the campsites at ground level we pride ourselves on our customer service throughout their experience, from initial contact all the way to waving goodbye at the end of their stay. This is proven in our fantastic reviews and certificate of excellence we have for each site on Trip Advisor.

Our two campsites
Wild Boar Wood Campsite

This campsite is a glamping only site near to Haywards Heath and just five miles north of our Lewes campsite. We have nine fully furnished bell tents here that are often booked out for exclusive use as well as for individuals. The site is off grid but does have flushing toilets and hot water bucket showers. We have full time live in wardens at Wild Boar Wood Campsite and provide them with a quirky shepherds hut for a home.

Beech Estate Campsite

Our largest site with thirty pitches set within a beautiful private 2000 acre estate. Eight of our pitches are fully furnished bell tents and we have a few group areas for families to book into throughout the season. This site is also off grid and has a mixture of flushing toilets, compost toilets and hot water bucket showers. Our wardens here live on site throughout the season in a lovely shepherds hut. We do often look for helpers throughout the peak season who are provided a four metre bell tent for accommodation.

Whilst the live in positions and associated responsibilities are part-time in nature, suitable applicants will likely see this position as a lifestyle choice, as their presence will be required onsite in the evenings and the peak guests times on weekends etc.

Working for Pegs and Pitches Camping

Work as a campsite warden in Sussex

Our camping seasons run from April to October. The primary responsibility of the warden(s) is to enhance the experience of our campers and ensure their wellbeing. Although we employ wardens and helpers for specific campsites it is great to have someone with flexibility to help out at other sites if needed. We’re a family and all like to get stuck in and get our hands dirty if and when needed.

The warden(s) is responsible for the safety and security of the campers and the campsite.  Meeting and greeting the campers and making them feel welcome are of great importance. We consider the role to be one of service to our guests, to answer any questions they may have. Also one of ‘troubleshooting’ and dealing with possible problems, ideally before they occur. Responsibilities could range from assisting lost guests, dealing with difficulties due to weather conditions or maintenance tasks.

Important Notes:
  • Both Wild Boar Wood and Beech Estate campsites are off-grid so no electricity. Though there are electricity points at both farms away from the campsites that can be used
  • You need to love camping and have a passion for nature
  • You must enjoy interacting with people, including children, with a strong customer service focus
  • No dogs are allowed due the local planning restrictions
  • You will need to own your own vehicle

The warden is responsible for cleaning of the bell tents and glamping structures after they are vacated. Cleaning of the toilets and showers. They are also responsible for the general maintenance and tidying of the campsite.
