We’re not fans of camping in open fields. It’s a bit characterless and we struggle to find the magic. We prefer woodland camping. In a woodland you can tuck yourselves away in private glades. You’re screened from other campers, so often feel like you have the entire woodland to yourselves. What could be more magical than that?
Why woodland camping?
Have you ever woken up in the night and needed to pop to the facilities? Navigating your way through a field of tents and and guy ropes can be slightly nightmarish. Particularly if it’s for the midnight dash! Or have you been trying to relax and listen to nature around you but been constantly distracted by the loud campers next door? It happens, people are enjoying themselves.
With woodland camping you’ll find no other tents in your way. No guy ropes to encourage trips and you might even find that the woodland trees shelter you from the noise of other campers.
Fun in the woods
With woodland camping you can build dens, play hide and seek, watch wildlife, go on bug hunts and just relax in your own little paradise.
Surround yourself with trees – it’s good for you!
It has been found that exposure to forests and trees:
- boosts the immune system
- reduces stress
- improves mood
- increases ability to focus, even in children with ADHD
- increases energy level
- improves sleep
The Japanese practice of Shirin-Yoku, also known as forest bathing, has shown huge health benefits. Essentially Shirin-Yoku is spending time in woodland, connecting with it through our senses. In other words, take a woodland camping trip and relax around your campfire, surrounded by nature. Read more about the practice here.
Our Woodland Camping Options
At Beech Estate Campsite we have a few options for your woodland camping trip. Forest tent pitches are generally all in private woodland glades. Faraway tent pitches are a little further from the car park and facilities, many with some stunning views over the valley. We also have larger group pitches for family and friends wanting to try our woodland camping together. Each of our tent pitches have their own firepit for your use.
We also have wild glamping bell tents at Beech Estate Campsite. Bell tents tucked away in the woods with everything you need for a stay. You’ll have your own fire pit and an allocation of firewood to get you started. We also have some options for friends and family wanting to be in adjacent bell tents.
Wild Boar Wood – our woodland glamping campsite
We even have a glamping only campsite in West Sussex that could be the right option for you. Wild Boar Wood Campsite has just nine bell tents in a semi-ancient woodland. Hire one, two or perhaps the entire campsite for exclusive use for your family gathering. Surround yourself in the beautiful woodland and relax into nature.
