Things to do in East Sussex

The Beech Estate is a recognised Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Nearby there are fantastic walks, pubs and the area is famous for the Battle of Hastings in 1066. The Battle of Hastings was fought on 14 October 1066 between the Norman-French army of Duke William II of Normandy and an English army under the Anglo-Saxon King Harold Godwinson. This was the beginning of the Norman conquest of England. A trip to the Battle Abbey is worthwhile to see the layout of the battlefields.

This cosmopolitan town of Hastings is home to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe. It houses the remains of the first castle in England, which was built by William the Conqueror. The Old Town of Hastings has a strong local arts community. Hastings is also home to the Jerwood Gallery, described as a stunning new art gallery, housing a collection of 20th and 21stcentury British art.
