The Best Campsites in Britain

Best Campsites in Britain – how can you find them?

Which campsites can claim to be the best campsites in Britain? With camping and glamping becoming the new ‘staycation’ of choice there are lots of great campsites and glamping sites popping up all the time. Our area of Sussex is quintessentially English, and close to London, so the competition to be the best campsite is fierce. Lots of new campsites are popping up throughout Britain and in particular the South East of England.

Pegs and Pitches are proud to have won a few prestigious camping awards of late. Are we among the Best Campsites in Britain? If you love camping in a woodland setting, with fires and a switch off the devices mentality, come along and stay and decide for yourself.

Recently we’ve been awarded the following camping industry prizes;

  • Best Campsite Overall in Britain 2022 from
  • Best Campsite in the South East of England in 2022 from
  • Best Campsite in the South East of England in 2023 from
  • Runner-Up Best Campsite in the South East England in 2024 from Hipcamp
  • Winner Best Campsite – The Green Parent Family Travel Awards

But ask us which are the best campsites Britain and of course we’re going to say Wild Boar Wood and Beech Estate Campsites. We may be biased, but reviews and feedback, and now a host of awards, tell us that we have created two of the best campsites in Sussex. Perhaps even in England and in Britain. Both are set in beautiful woodlands in lovely parts of Sussex. Lots of the qualities we think are important are included. That’s how we have tried to create them, as campsites my family and friends would love to stay in.

In such a subjective field, I would say these are my main criteria when I looking for a great campsite:

  • Campfires allowed – nothing like a bit of fire TV;
  • Family friendly;
  • Pitches for couples away from the crowds;
  • Ecological;
  • Beautiful Setting;
  • Lots of opportunities for great walks;
  • A relaxed, chilled vibe;
  • Away from main roads and light pollution.

Three of my favourites in Sussex (apart from our own sites of course) are Wowo Campsite, Blackberry Wood and the Secret Campsite. I’m pleased to say I think our two campsites tick most, if not all, the boxes above. Take a look at the reviews we’ve had on Trip Advisor from campers to form your own view too.
