Getaways in secluded woodlands
Beech Estate Woodland Campsite, near Battle, and Wild Boar Wood Campsite, near Haywards Heath, are ideal places for adult glamping breaks. Both campsites are off grid with pre-erected ‘wild glamping’ bell tents in beautiful bluebell woodlands.
The campsites are within easy reach of London, Brighton and the south coast. So they’re great for short breaks where you want to getaway from it all and immerse yourself in nature. Choose one of our faraway pitches at either campsite for more of your own space and seclusion. Both sites allow campfires so you can spend your time relaxing in the woodland around your campfire. But if you prefer to be more active there are plenty of options for exploration, on foot or by car.
Adult glamping breaks at Wild Boar Wood
From Wild Boar Wood, you can head out for walks in the countryside. It is a pleasant hour’s walk to the closest village at Horsted Keynes where there are two pubs, a small shop and a village church. The Bluebell Railway has a station just outside the village (a five-minute drive, or a long walk) and is styled as if in the 1920s. The station has been used in many period dramas and films, most recently in Downton Abbey. Just visiting the station is enough to recapture the romance of the steam age but a ride on the railway makes for a great day out. You can even step aboard for a cream tea on one of the railway’s special services. Nearby Lindfield village is another nice place to visit and about an hour’s walk away.
Sheffield Park and Garden is one of the closest attractions to the campsite and a lovely place to visit with acres of beautiful gardens and parkland to explore and picnic in. Another great activity for adult glamping trips is a visit to the nearby Bluebell Vineyard where you can learn about the wine-making process and sample the sparkling wines produced there. Cheese-lovers will also appreciate the fine cheeses that are produced just up the road at The High Weald Dairy. The campsite wardens can pick up a special camper’s cheese selection for you during your stay. For real cheese enthusiasts, there are courses held on selected weekends at the dairy where you can make your own cheese. These are very popular and will need to be booked well in advance though. Visit the High Weald Dairy website for more information.
Adult glamping breaks at Beech Estate
Our Beech Estate Woodland Campsite is set on the edge of a 600-acre woodland. It is part of the private Beech Estate which covers a total of 2,000 acres. You won’t come across too many other people, as the woodland is exclusively for our campers use. There are some lovely pubs in the area which can be reached by walking through the estate.
You’ll find the Battle Brewery on the estate, just a short walk through the woodland. The brewery has a small bar, serves snacks and often have food trailers on site. Grab yourself a Growler of your favourite beer to bring back to the campsite to enjoy around the campfire.
Close to the campsite, you can also head out to the historic market town of Battle to visit the famous battlefield and associated abbey. There are many independent shops, galleries and eateries. There are also several vineyards within a short drive of the campsite where you can join tours to learn about the wine-making process, sample Sussex wines and pick up a bottle or two to take home or enjoy at the campsite.
For adult breaks, the best times to visit Wild Boar Wood or Beech Estate campsites are mid-week, outside of holidays. This is when the campsites tend to be quieter. Check availability by clicking the Book Now button at the top of the page.
